Mercer County Lawyer Melissa Merchant-Calvert Named Chair of Pennsylvania Bar Association Young Lawyers Division

HARRISBURG, Pa. (May 2, 2024) — Melissa Merchant-Calvert, owner, Law Offices of Melissa Merchant-Calvert, Mercer, will become chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) Young Lawyers Division (YLD) at the close of the association’s Annual Meeting on May 10 in Hershey.

As YLD chair, Merchant-Calvert will serve on the 2024-25 PBA Board of Governors. Within the YLD, she has held the offices of zone co-chair since 2016, chair-elect and secretary.

Merchant-Calvert served a three-term on the PBA Board of Governors as the zone governor representing Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties. Since 2015, she has been a voting delegate in the PBA House of Delegates, the association’s policymaking body.

Active in the PBA, Merchant-Calvert is a member of the Animal Law, Civility in the Profession, and Medical Marijuana and Hemp Law committees. She is the Board of Governors Liaison to the Plain English Committee.

In her local bar association, Merchant-Calvert is the secretary of the Mercer County Bar Association and former chair of its Young Lawyers Division.

Merchant-Calvert actively supports Project Linus, an organization that collects and distributes homemade blankets to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need. She also coordinates a Mercer County Bar Association gift drive that benefits children in the custody of Mercer County Children and Youth Services.

Focusing her practice on family law and criminal law, Merchant-Calvert serves as a Mercer County custody conciliator, counsel for children in Mercer County Children and Youth Services cases, and she prosecutes domestic relations cases for the commonwealth. Prior to opening her own firm, she was an associate attorney with Whalen Law Offices in Mercer.

Merchant-Calvert earned her bachelor’s degree from Edinboro University and her Juris Doctor from Barry University in Orlando, Florida.
