The Section on Tax Law shall take as its province the development and practical working of the law relating to taxation, both substantive and procedural.
P.A. Bylaws, Article VI, Section 663
Welcome to the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Tax Law Section! The section is one of the most active sections with over 350 members from across the Commonwealth. Our diverse membership includes lawyers in solo practice, law firms (large, midsize, and small), in-house, and government, including representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, the Board of Finance and Revenue, and Office of Attorney General.
The primary goal of the Tax Law Section is to bring together practitioners, industry representatives, and government officials for the advancement and improvement of state tax law, tax administration and the tax appeals process in Pennsylvania. Section meetings provide a forum for exchanging tax information and the sharing of ideas. Periodically, the section also provides opportunities for continuing education through CLE-qualified programs.
The section is led by a Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary, each of which serves a two-year term. The section leaders are also members of the section council. In total, the section council is comprised of 16 active tax section members representing a cross-section of the section’s membership. The section council not only participates in section meetings (which are open to all members), but the council also reviews and provides comment on draft publications, bulletins, and notices submitted by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue as well as pending legislation. The council members also have the opportunity to serve on nominating committees for section leadership positions. Council members serve two-year terms.
We invite and encourage you to join and become an active participant of the Tax Law Section by getting involved in meetings, council positions, or section leadership. We welcome your thoughts and suggestions on how we can improve our section. Thank you for your consideration.
