Abington Heights High School in Lackawanna County Wins National Mock Trial Championship

HARRISBURG, Pa. (May 6, 2024) — Abington Heights High School in Lackawanna County won the National High School Mock Trial Championship, which took place May 2-4 in Wilmington, Delaware. The event was hosted by the Delaware Law Related Education Center Inc.

The Abington Heights mock trial team students were Amishi Amit, Christopher Cummins, J.T. Healey, Madeline Herold, Dane Huggler, Aidan Lam, Serena Mokhtari, Henry Mahoney, Nolan Moore, William Newton, Ananya Phadki, Zachary Riggall, Thomas Russini, Ava Shedlauskas and Ava Whalen. The teacher coaches were Amy Kelly and Jennifer Tarr. The attorney advisors were Dan Cummins and Jody Healey, and the performance advisor was Anne Cummins.

The team competed against teams from 48 states.

Abington Heights was also the winner of the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) Statewide High School Mock Trial Competition, which took place March 22-23 at the Dauphin County Courthouse in Harrisburg. The competition was sponsored by the PBA Young Lawyers Division. The team was one of 262 teams from 215 high schools that competed in district and regional levels of Pennsylvania's mock trial competition. Abington Heights also won the state competition in 2021 and 2022. Co-chairs of the PBA Mock Trial Executive Committee were Jonathan Koltash and Jennifer Menichini, both former chairs of the Young Lawyers Division.
