The Secretary

The Bylaws provide that the Secretary shall "keep both the respective minutes of the House of Delegates, the Board of Governors and the Assembly," and must certify nomination of PBA officers to the House. Bylaws Article V, Section 514(1)(3).

The Bylaws also provide that the Secretary shall be responsible for "the seal of the Association...the Roster of the Delegates in the House...(shall) receive, certify, and publish nominations of Delegates, Governors and officers...receive and keep as the property of the Association all papers, addresses and reports to the House...(and) perform such other duties as may from time to time be assigned by the Board of Governors or the President." Bylaws Article V, Section 514(1)(2)(3)(4)(5) and (7).

The Bylaws provide further that the Secretary shall "establish, update and monitor the timetables and policy and procedure documentation of the Association and give notice when notice is required to be given to the House, the Board, or the Members." Bylaws Article V, Section 514(6).

The Secretary shall serve a one-year term and may not serve for more than three consecutive terms. Bylaws Article V, Section 501(c).

The Secretary, in addition to the two meetings of the House, shall attend five regularly scheduled meetings of the Board of Governors, any special meetings which may be called an emergency basis, telephone conference call meetings of the Executive Committee, and the Board Retreat usually held in June at a nearby location. Bylaws Article IV, Section 403.

It is important that the Secretary submit minutes of all Board and House meetings promptly to the Association for distribution as required.

The Secretary reports Board actions to the House of Delegates. Bylaws Article IV, Section 402(a).

The Secretary will forward any resolutions of the Board of Governors or House of Delegates to the appropriate party or parties within one week of the passing of such resolutions.

Only on rare occasions does the Secretary represent the Association at ceremonial functions or county bar events. Generally, however, the Secretary has been active within his or her own zone.
