HARRISBURG, Pa. (May 2, 2023) — Melissa Merchant-Calvert of Hermitage will become chair-elect of the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) Young Lawyers Division (YLD) at the close of the association’s Annual Meeting in Philadelphia on May 5.
As YLD chair-elect, Merchant-Calvert will serve on the 2023-24 PBA Board of Governors.
Merchant-Calvert is completing a three-year term on the PBA Board of Governors as the zone governor representing Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties. She also is completing a three-year term as YLD secretary, and she has served as a YLD zone co-chair since 2016.
Since 2015, Merchant-Calvert has been a voting delegate in the PBA House of Delegates, the association’s policymaking body.
She is a member of the PBA Animal Law, Audit, Civility in the Profession, and Medical Marijuana and Hemp Law committees.
Also active in the local organized bar, Merchant-Calvert is the past secretary of the Mercer County Bar Association, and she served for five years as the chair of the association’s Young Lawyers Division.
Merchant-Calvert actively supports Project Linus, an organization that collects and distributes homemade blankets to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need.
Focusing her practice on family law and criminal law, Merchant-Calvert also serves as a Mercer County custody conciliator, counsel for children in Mercer County children and youth cases, and she prosecutes domestic relations cases for the Commonwealth. Prior to opening her own firm, she was an associate attorney for 10 years with Whalen Law Offices in Mercer.
Merchant-Calvert is a graduate of Edinboro University and obtained her Juris Doctor from Barry University in Orlando, Florida.
