HARRISBURG, Pa. (Oct. 18, 2023) — Eric L. Brossman, partner at Bybel Rutledge LLP, Lemoyne, received the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) W. Edward Sell/William H. Clark Jr. Business Lawyer Award during the 2023 Business Law Institute on Oct. 17 in Philadelphia.
Presented by the PBA Business Law Section, the W. Edward Sell/William H. Clark Jr. Business Lawyer Award honors the contributions to the practice of business law at the highest level, either through the practice of law or through teaching. Recipients must have contributed to the statutory development of business law in Pennsylvania and to the PBA by working in leadership roles in the Business Law Section.
Within the PBA, Brossman is active in the Business Law Section, serving as past chair, current chair of the section’s Bankruptcy Committee and member of the section’s Council, Task Force on Modernization of the Pennsylvania Insolvency Laws, Third Party Legal Opinion Task Force, Title 15 Committee, Uniform Commercial Code Task Force and Drafting Committee, and Uniform Voidable Transactions Act Task Force. He is also a member of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section. In addition, he is a life fellow of the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation and a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, American Bar Association, Dauphin County Bar Association and Middle District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Bar Association.
One of Brossman’s nominators said: “As a practicing attorney with an ‘AV’ rating, he has mentored numerous attorneys through the years, including introducing them to the PBA Business Law Section, and has also initiated several successful nomination processes for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. There is no question that Eric has contributed to the PBA through his work in the Business Law Section, not to mention as a life fellow of the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation.”
Civically, Brossman serves as a trustee of the Central Pennsylvania Educational Institution, secretary and board member of the Cultural Enrichment Fund and board of managers member of the East Shore YMCA.
At his firm, Brossman concentrates his practice on business reorganization and counseling, commercial finance, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and Uniform Commercial Code Article 8 and 9 secured transactions.
A frequent author and lecturer on business and corporate law, Brossman has presented numerous continuing legal education seminars, and served as a course planner for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute Bankruptcy Institute, Business Law Institute and Commercial Documents Series. He is also an adjunct professor, teaching secured transactions at Penn State Dickinson Law.
Recognized for his work, Brossman’s accolades include receiving the PBA Special Achievement Award, Pennsylvania Bar Foundation Pro Bono Publico Certificate of Achievement and Pennsylvania Legal Services Striving for Excellence Award. He also has a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating.
Brossman earned his Juris Doctor from The Pennsylvania State University, Dickinson Law, his master’s degree from The Pennsylvania State University and his bachelor’s degree from Albright College.
