HARRISBURG, Pa. (May 1, 2023) — Nancy Conrad, a partner with Philadelphia-based White and Williams LLP, managing partner of White and Williams’ Lehigh Valley office and a resident of Lehigh County, will become president-elect of the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) at the conclusion of the association’s Annual Meeting, May 5, in Philadelphia.
Conrad is completing her term as PBA vice president and will serve as the 2024-25 president. She will become the second PBA president from Lehigh County, following Fred B. Gernerd, the association’s 1941-42 president.
In addition to her role as a PBA officer, Conrad is co-vice chair of the PBA Federal Practice Committee, a member of the Executive Council of the PBA Civil Litigation Section since 2018, and a past chair, and, since 2018, an Executive Council member of the PBA Labor and Employment Law Section. She is a member of the PBA Task Force on Statewide Electronic Filing and a member of the PBA Bylaws, Civil and Equal Rights, Large Law Firm, Law-Related Education, LGBTQ+ Rights, Minority Bar and Quality of Life/Balance committees.
From 2019 to 2021, Conrad was the inaugural chair of the PBA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Team, which provides resources and forums for enhanced communication among PBA groups with DEI initiatives. While Chair, Conrad developed and presented a series of programs focusing on DEI issues. Conrad also developed the position of diversity representatives to serve as liaisons to PBA committees and sections.
From May 2018 through May 2021, Conrad served on the PBA Board of Governors as the at-large governor representing the interests of women lawyers. While on the Board, she chaired the Dues Structure Task Force.
For many years, Conrad has been actively involved in the PBA Commission on Women in the Profession (WIP), serving on its Executive Council and as WIP’s co-chair in 2014 and 2015. Of the many projects that she has managed, one of the most visible is the development of themes for the educational programs offered at WIP events that explore the cross-section of history and its impact on women lawyers. Conrad was also instrumental in the formation of the WIP Public Service Committee and served as its inaugural chair.
In 2019, the PBA WIP honored Conrad with its Anne X. Alpern Award, which recognizes a female lawyer or judge who demonstrates excellence in the legal profession and who makes a significant professional impact on women in the law. Established in 1994, the award was named for Anne X. Alpern, Pennsylvania’s attorney general in 1959 and the first woman state attorney general in the nation.
In 2019 and 2021, Conrad received a PBA President’s Award for her service to the PBA.
Conrad is a PBA-appointed delegate to the American Bar Association House of Delegates.
In addition to her commitment to the statewide organized bar, Conrad is president of the Bar Association of Lehigh County and co-chairs its Federal Practice Committee. She is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys. She also serves as a Hearing Committee Member for the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in Disciplinary District II.
Conrad also serves as a resource through her involvement in several other women-focused organizations and often writes and is a presenter on topics to help women lawyers succeed.
Active in the community, Conrad is board president of the Lehigh Valley Women’s 5K Classic, a volunteer organization that promotes fitness among women, supports women with breast and gynecologic cancers, and provides funding to related programs and research in the greater Lehigh Valley. A breast cancer survivor, Conrad is an advocate and speaker on the importance of regular check-ups, early detection and treatment.
Conrad’s professional achievements and community work have been recognized with multiple awards. The Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce presented Conrad with its 2006 Athena Award, which honors women striving for the highest levels of professional accomplishment, excelling in their chosen field and devoting time and energy to their community.
Lehigh Valley Magazine honored Conrad in 2008 as a “mover and shaper” in recognition of her contributions to the region and named her a 2013 Woman of Influence for her leadership and positive impact in the Lehigh Valley.
The Girl Scouts presented Conrad with its 2009 Take the Lead Award, which honors women whose professional and personal accomplishment exemplify the organization’s mission to build girls who lead with courage, confidence and character.
Lehigh Valley Business named Conrad in 2022 among region’s power players, which is composed of the area’s most significant, influential and respected leaders in their field.
Conrad is chair of White and Williams’ Higher Education group and represents businesses, educational institutions and nonprofit organizations in workplace disputes, including wrongful discharge, whistleblower and federal and state discrimination claims, and provides counsel on workplace issues. Conrad serves as chair of the White and Williams Women’s Initiative that assists women lawyers identify ways to achieve their goals and find work/life balance.
Conrad holds a bachelor’s degree from Lycoming College, a master’s degree from Penn State University and a Juris Doctor from Temple University School of Law.
