Amy J. Coco

Amy J. Coco, a shareholder in the Pittsburgh-based firm of DiBella Weinheimer, is serving a three-year term representing the interests of women lawyers as the woman governor on the Pennsylvania Bar Association Board of Governors.

Coco currently serves as the co-vice chair of the PBA Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee, co-chair of the Professional Liability Committee and is a voting member of the PBA House of Delegates, the policymaking body of the association. She is a member of the PBA Commission on Women in the Profession, Quality of Life/Balance Committee, and Solo and Small Firm Section.

From 2018 to 2020, Coco was a member of the PBA Planning Committee and, from 2016 to 2020, she was a member of the Investigative Division of the Judicial Evaluation Commission, which provides Pennsylvania voters with ratings of appellate court candidates. She has served in multiple roles for the Commission on Women in the Profession, including co-chair of the Public Service Committee from 2019 to 2020, co-chair of the Promotion of Women Subcommittee from 2015 to 2019 and co-chair of the Membership Committee from 2012 to 2015.

Also active in the Allegheny County Bar Association, Coco has served on its Board of Governors since 2018. She has been a member of the Women in the Law Division since 1996. She is currently the chair of the Lawyers’ Insurance Committee and the By-Laws Committee and a member of the Finance Committee and Solo and Small Firm Section. She was a 2017 to 2019 member of the Nominating Committee. She has been a member of the Professional Ethics Committee in 2010, serving as the committee’s 2015-16 chair and as a duty officer. 

Coco is a frequent lecturer on risk management, ethics and avoiding legal malpractice for the PBA, the Allegheny County Bar Association and other organizations.

Coco’s practice focuses on representation of lawyers and law students before the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board, the Board of Law Examiners and the Client Security Fund, we well as representing judges in judicial conduct matters. She counsels lawyers and law firms on ethics, employment and risk management matters. In addition, she defends product liability, personal injury and property damage cases.

Since 2017, she has been the program director of the Pitt Legal Services Incubator at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, which helps law school graduates establish sustainable solo and small law firm practices. Since 2015 she has been an adjunct teacher of business law, business ethics, and accounting and finance law at the University of Pittsburgh Katz School of Business.

Coco earned her undergraduate degree from Indiana University of Bloomington, Indiana, and her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

Active in the community, Coco was den leader of Cub Scout Pack 625 of the Japeechen District from 2014 to 2017, teaches faith formation to middle schoolers for St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church in Glenshaw and served on the Central Catholic High School Mother’s Guild and Baseball Boosters from 2013 to 2016.
