PBA Lawyers Directory & Product Guide now available.
The 2017 PBA Lawyers Directory & Product Guide is now available in traditional print format or via online subscription. Included are the Product and Service Guide, Expert Witnesses Section and Firm-to-Firm Referrals Section, as well as contact information for more than 60,000 lawyers licensed to practice in Pennsylvania. Supreme Court Issues New Public Access Policy for Appellate and Trial Court Case Records
By order on Jan. 6, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has adopted a new public access policy that, for the first time, establishes uniform standards for all appellate and trial courts in responding to requests from the public for case records. The policy includes how requests for access are to be handled, establishes a limit on copying fees and delineates what information will be safeguarded.
Be Alert to Email Scams
If you receive what seems to be a fraudulent email, it should be deleted unopened, as it likely contains malicious software. In the past, PBA members have reported receiving scam emails from would-be "clients" and from others claiming to represent the Disciplinary Board or IRS. Preparing for a Cyberbreach, Protecting Online Accounts in next Lawyer Magazine
In the next Pennsylvania Lawyer magazine two members of the PBA Professional Liability Committee detail the responsibilities of preparing for a cyberbreach, and the magazine’s Legal Tech columnist provides tips to protect your online accounts. Also featured: a judge’s insights regarding permitting jurors to ask questions during trials; a look at parenting options in families with a history of domestic violence; and an account of how one woman came to a career in the law and the journey that followed. 2017 Statewide Mock Trial Competition Begins This Month
District competition in the 2017 Statewide High School Mock Trial Competition sponsored by the PBA Young Lawyers Division begins this month. With teams from more than 250 schools across Pennsylvania taking part, this annual competition is consistently one of the largest contests of its kind in the nation. The statewide contest concludes with the State Championship Weekend in Harrisburg on March 24-25, and the state winner then goes on to the national competition in Hartford, Conn., May 11-13. $10,000 Stipend for Summer 2017 Internship in Environmental, Energy Law
