Penn State Dickinson Law Student Mariama Barry to Receive Hoffmeyer-Overmiller Scholarship From Pennsylvania Bar Foundation
HARRISBURG, Pa. (Aug. 26, 2024) — Mariama Barry, a third year student at Penn State Dickinson Law, Carlisle, is the recipient of the 2024 Louise Hoffmeyer-Overmiller Scholarship, a $6,000 award administered by the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation.
The scholarship is presented to a full-time, third-year Dickinson Law student who has a 3.0 or greater grade point average and proven financial need. It was founded by Dickinson Law alumnus William F. Hoffmeyer in memory of his daughter “Louie,” who was the office manager at his firm, Hoffmeyer & Semmelman LLC, and the vice president and title officer for York Abstracting Company.
At Dickinson Law, Barry is a member of the National Moot Court and National Mock Trial teams. In her first year of law school, she was a Mock Trial Competition champion. In 2022 and 2023, she was a CALI Excellence for the Future Award recipient for legal writing. Barry is a member of the Diversity, Inclusion and Educational Equity Committee; and a legal writing teaching assistant, pardon coach, property law tutor and student career ambassador.
Currently, Barry is serving as a legal extern for the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General Bureau of Consumer Protection, Harrisburg. Previously, she was a legal intern with the Community Justice Project, Harrisburg. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in civil litigation, civil rights or labor and employment law.
Barry received her bachelor's degree in government and international studies with a concentration in human rights from Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, where she also served as president of the Black Student Union.
