Under the Pennsylvania's Rule of Professional Conduct Rule 6.1 (Voluntary Pro Bono Publico Service), "A lawyer should render public interest legal service. A lawyer may discharge this responsibility by providing professional services at no fee or a reduced fee to persons of limited means or to public service or charitable groups or organizations, by service in activities for improving the law, the legal system or the legal profession, and by financial support for organizations that provide legal services to persons of limited means."

The defining principle of our legal system is the promise of equal justice under law for all. Yet, despite this promise, there is a crisis of unmet legal needs among the indigent in Pennsylvania and throughout the nation.

As officers of the court, lawyers are reminded of their responsibility to perform pro bono publico service by Rule 6.1. One way to help meet this ethical obligation is through the voluntary financial support of the PBA Pro Bono Office through the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation (PBF).

Your voluntary, tax-deductible contribution of $50 or whatever is feasible, whether more or less, can help. Go to www.pabarfoundation.org/Support/Contribute.aspx and designate your contribution to support the PBF's pro bono grant stream. Funding supports the Annual Pro Bono Conference, the statewide educational and networking forum hosted by the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Go to www.pabarfoundation.org/donations/ProFonoFund.aspx to donate online.

You are also welcome to volunteer your services directly to the PBA Pro Bono Office by contacting David Trevaskis at [email protected] or (717) 571-7414 or by going to www.paprobono.net/oppsguide / on the PA Pro Bono Net website to find a volunteer opportunity tailored to your abilities and schedule.

Thank you for your support!
