FRANCO HARRIS TEES-OFF FOR LEGAL SERVICES FOR THE POOR

HARRISBURG (July 8, 1997) -- Hall of Fame Pittsburgh Steelers running back Franco Harris will join Pennsylvania Auditor General Robert P. Casey, Jr. and Paul A. Tufano, general counsel of the Commonwealth, at the Pennsylvania Bar Association Young Lawyers Division charity golf tournament this Saturday, July 12 at Toftrees Resort, State College. Tee-time is

12:30 p.m. Lexis-Nexis and PNC Private Bank are the official tournament co-sponsors.

Steven B. Nesmith, chair of the YLD, said that all proceeds from the event will benefit legal services for low-income families. Monies will be distributed to various legal services agencies across the Commonwealth by the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation.

"Raising funds for those less fortunate will give true meaning to the concept of equal justice for all," Nesmith said. "As lawyers, we have an ethical obligation to ensure that access to justice is available to everyone, not just to those who can afford it."

He noted that both Casey and Tufano are two of the Commonwealth's outstanding young lawyers who are volunteering their time to join fellow attorneys in raising funds for a worthwhile cause.

The tournament, which is part of the YLD Annual Summer

Conference, is expected to draw nearly 200 lawyers from across the Commonwealth.

"This is the young lawyers' way of giving back to the

community," Nesmith said. "Seeing the tournament come together and knowing that so many needy people are going to benefit from it has been a thrill for me and the other young lawyers."

A silent auction will follow the tournament at 7 p.m., where items including boxing shorts and gloves autographed by former world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali, will be given to the highest bidder.
