MEDIA LAWYER HONORED WITH GOFFMAN AWARD FOR PRO BONO SERVICE

HARRISBURG (June 8, 2001) - Media lawyer Arthur Levy was honored with one of the Pennsylvania Bar Foundations Louis J. Goffman awards for his pro bono efforts in 2000. The award was presented to Levy at a Pennsylvania Bar Association luncheon held June 8 in Harrisburg.

Named for a late Pennsylvania Bar Association president, the Louis J. Goffman Award is presented annually to an individual and group or organization for outstanding pro bono work during the past year. All lawyers and law-related groups/organizations are eligible for the award. The award is presented by the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the PBA.

The Pennsylvania Bar Foundation is pleased to recognize those individuals in the legal profession who work to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate, said Arthur L. Piccone, president of the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation. Arthur Levy is to be commended for his tireless efforts and outstanding work in providing pro bono legal services in Delaware County.

Since 1994, Levy has served as president of the Delaware County Legal Assistance Association (DCLAA), which provides legal services to the residents of Chester. As president, he has worked to secure necessary funding for the organizations viability and to protect the association from the potential loss of federal money. Levy also led the DCLAAs first attorney fundraising campaign, which raised over $100,000 in its first year.

Arthur has brought to this job a compassion and concern for the clients served by DCLAA, as well as a shrewd business approach to managing DCLAAs scarce resources, and a warm diplomacy with the diverse groups brought together under the umbrella of DCLAA, noted a nominator of Levy. He is the pinnacle of professionalism.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Levy has been a trial attorney in Delaware County for over 40 years. During that time he served as a solicitor for the Chichester School District for 25 years and is the current solicitor for the Ridley and William Penn school districts. Levy also has represented a number of Delaware County municipal organizations, including the Chester Water Authority, the Township of Chester and the Borough of Yeadon.

Levy is a past member of the Delaware County Bar Association Board of Directors and the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Hearing Committee.
