PITTSBURGH LAWYER HONORED FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE WORK

HARRISBURG (June 7, 1999) -- Jeffrey L. Pollock, a Pittsburgh sole practitioner, was honored with the Pennsylvania Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Michael K. Smith Award during the PBA Annual Meeting held last month in Philadelphia.

This award is presented each year to a lawyer who performs outstanding community service. It is named in memory of a Philadelphia young lawyer who died of cancer four years ago.

Although Jeff expends significant energies initiating client contact, developing his ever-growing practice and fostering client and professional relations, these time-consuming projects have not deterred him from actively seeking involvement in and direction of numerous pro bono services and community functions that allow him to use his legal degree and knowledge for the benefit of society, said Pittsburgh lawyer Serena M. Williams in her nomination letter.

In addition to his many hours of pro bono legal assistance, Pollack is actively involved in numerous Pittsburgh area community service activities, including: United Way Day of Caring Coordinator; Leukemia Society Board of Trustees; Special Olympics Charity Auction Co-Creator/Emcee; American Cancer Society New Directions Committee Event Chairperson; KD & You and the Law volunteer; and Abraxas Foundation Fundraising volunteer.

Pollack also has been selected by fellow lawyers to serve in law-related forums, including: member of the PBA House of Delegates, Membership Committee and Bench-Bar Committee; former Allegheny County Bar Association Board of Governors member and chair of its Young Lawyers Section; and division liaison representative to the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division.

Pollack is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
