PBA Women in the Profession Accepting Nominations for Awards

HARRISBURG (Dec. 11, 2006) The Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) Commission on Women in the Profession is accepting nominations for the Anne X. Alpern and Lynette Norton awards, which honor excellence among female lawyers. The awards will be presented during the June 2007 Women in the Profession Conference in Philadelphia.

The Anne X. Alpern Award is presented to a female lawyer or judge who demonstrates excellence in the legal profession and who makes a significant professional impact on women in the law. Established in 1994, the award is named for Alpern, who in 1959 became the first female state attorney general in Pennsylvania and in the nation.

The Lynette Norton Award is presented in memory of a founding member of the PBA Commission on Women in the Profession. Norton, who died suddenly in 2002, was an advocate for young women in the legal profession and worked to promote womens rights and literacy. The award recognizes and encourages female attorneys who excel in litigation skills and who are devoted to mentoring female lawyers.
