HARRISBURG (May 9, 2011) - The Pennsylvania Bar Association Administrative Law Section presented its James S. Bowman Award to Daniel R. Schuckers of Camp Hill during the state association's Annual Meeting on May 4 in Philadelphia.

The James S. Bowman Award honors a lawyer who is making a significant impact on the practice of administrative law and who is demonstrating leadership in mentoring administrative law practitioners.

Schuckers is currently an adjunct professor of law at Widener University School of Law, Harrisburg Campus, where he teaches law students about Pennsylvania appellate practice and procedure, state administrative law and federal administrative law. Until his retirement from full-time work in 2007, Schuckers served as prothonotary of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania, where he was known as a leading expert in administrative law and appellate procedure.

Schuckers is a founding member of the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court Historical Society, a nonprofit educational and historical preservation organization. He spearheaded the society's events commemorating the 40th anniversary of Commonwealth Court, including a symposium about the contributions of the court that was organized in conjunction with the Widener Law Journal.

A member of the James S. Bowman American Inns of Court, Schuckers is co-author of Pennsylvania Appellate Practice, a three-volume treatise on appellate litigation in the commonwealth. He also has written extensively for bar journals in Pennsylvania.

Schuckers is a former assistant chief counsel for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry and a former deputy attorney general in the civil litigation section of the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General.

Schuckers holds an undergraduate degree from Colgate University, a master's degree from Stanford and a juris doctor from Dickinson School of Law.

Founded in 1895, the Pennsylvania Bar Association strives to promote justice, professional excellence and respect for the law; improve public understanding of the legal system; facilitate access to legal services; and serve the 28,000 lawyers who are members of the association.
