Berks County Lawyer Presented with Chief Justice John P. Flaherty Award

HARRISBURG (March 26, 2010) - The Pennsylvania Bar Association Conference of County Bar Leaders (CCBL) recently honored Wyomissing attorney Terry D. Weiler with its Chief Justice John P. Flaherty Award. The award was presented during the group's annual conference held in Lancaster.

The Flaherty Award honors the work of an association member for supporting and promoting the projects and purposes of the CCBL and for efforts to improve the legal profession, the justice system and the community.

Weiler served on the board of CCBL from 2001 to 2009. During his CCBL presidency in 2008, Weiler was integral in the smooth transition of county bar services directors at the Pennsylvania Bar Association.

Weiler is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association House of Delegates and is president of the Berks County Bar Foundation Board of Trustees.

Weiler was the president of the Berks County Bar Association in 2001 and led the first-time effort to create a public service television announcement to promote the positive contributions of lawyers and urge viewers to use the lawyer-referral service.

Weiler was involved in his county bar headquarters' renovations, having helped conceive and plan the renovation to the basement and third floor of the Berks County Bar Association building and led the related fundraising effort. He instituted the county bar association's program to improve civility and help lawyers deal with stress in the profession. He also helped to create a lawyers' assistance committee that provides a local resource center for attorneys in need.

The Conference of County Bar Leaders, whose membership includes leaders from county bar associations throughout the state and from the Pennsylvania Bar Association, organizes a yearly educational conference focusing on the exchange of innovative bar association projects and ideas and on the development of mutually-beneficial relationships among bar leaders that improve the legal profession.

Founded in 1895, the Pennsylvania Bar Association strives to promote justice, professional excellence and respect for the law; improve public understanding of the legal system; facilitate access to legal services; and serve the 29,000 lawyers who are members of the association.
