Soccer Ball Gifts Reach Iraqi Children and Soldiers, 2006 |
The PBA's Military and Veterans Affairs Committee has gratefully
acknowledged the support of the Wilmington Area School District for its donation of new
soccer balls to send to U.S. troops. The troops use the soccer balls in their outreach
efforts to Iraqi children and soldiers. The school district donated 71 soccer balls to the
cause.
Lt. Colonel Andrew Eisemann, co-chair of the committee and recently on duty in Iraq,
finds that soccer balls are effective tools to connect with Iraqi youth and soldiers. He
called upon a number of Pennsylvania groups, including the PBA, to be part of the donation
effort.
In a Harrisburg Patriot-News letter to the editor, Eisemann wrote that
"soccer balls probably will not end the violence in Iraq, but a new generation of
Iraqis ... will forever remember the smile and handshake of a U.S. soldier as a direct
result of (the local groups) efforts."

October 2006: PBA Pro Bono Coordinator David Trevaskis presents members of the Wilmington Area School Board with a plaque and the appreciation of the PBA Military and Veterans Affairs Committee for collecting soccer balls for soldiers in Iraq to share with children there.
