Federal Funding Authorized through Prosecutors and Defenders Incentive Act
On Dec. 16, 2009, President Barack Obama signed H.R. 3288, the Consolidated Appropriations Act for FY 2010.�The appropriations act includes�the first allocation of funding in the amount of $10 million�for the John R. Justice Prosecutors and Defenders Incentive Act. The National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) will work�with the U.S. Department of Justice through the beginning of 2010 to set up the structure and procedures to administer the program.�After the program is up and running, NLADA will continue to work to increase funding so this opportunity will be available for every public defender in need.
