Message from the Chair

Message from the Chair, Guerline L. Laurore, Esq.
Thank you for your interest in the PBA Law-Related Education (LRE) Committee. One of the LRE Committee's most impactful programs involves celebrating the U.S. Constitution and making sure that students are being taught about the Constitution and how it is relevant to their lives. September 2012 marked the 225th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution. But back in 1787 it took months - from Sept. 17, when it was signed by the delegates, until June 21 of the following year, when the ninth state ratified it - for the Constitution to become the official law of the land. The LRE Committee decided to take this same time period to raise awareness and support among our fellow PBA members and others about the need for civics education in our schools. I invite you to show your support for civics education by making a donation to the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation. Your donation will help to ensure that we can continue to supply free copies of the Constitution to students (30,000 copies every year). If you donate $25 or more you will receive an insulated tote bag that commemorates the 225th anniversary of the Constitution and includes the words of the preamble on the front of the bag. We also encourage judges and attorneys to go into schools and talk with students throughout the year about the law, rights, responsibilities of citizenship or careers in the legal field. Finally, I invite you to become an active member of the LRE Committee so that we can work together to provide crucial education to the next generation and benefit our esteemed profession. Thank you.
