RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE AMICUS CURIAE COMMITTEE TO THE OFFICERS AND BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE PENNSYLVANIA BAR ASSOCIATION

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

To promote the policies of the Pennsylvania Bar Association in state and federal courts and in administrative and regulatory agencies through advocacy in cases that significantly affect the interests of the association and its members in connection with regulation of the legal profession or improving the quality of legal services.

COMPOSITION OF THE COMMITTEE

The committee shall consist of no more than twelve members:

    a. A chair or co-chairs as appointed by the president;

    b. A maximum of ten other members appointed by the president.

ROLE OF THE AMICUS CURIAE COMMITTEE

The committee shall:

    a. Review cases submitted for consideration and vote on the association's participation as amicus curiae. If the committee votes in the affirmative, such vote shall be reported immediately to the president of the association for determination as to whether the president's approval or approval of the Board of Governors of the association is required;

    b. Endeavor to advocate those positions of the association which already have been articulated and, to develop, with the assistance of the president and the Board of Governor, those policy positions where the association has not yet taken a formal position.
