SCHUYLKILL COUNTY LAWYER TO RECEIVE STATEWIDE AWARD FOR LEADERSHIP

HARRISBURG (Feb. 20, 2002) - The Pennsylvania Bar Association Conference of County Bar Leaders (CCBL) will honor Schuylkill County lawyer Chester C. Pete Corse Jr. March 1 in State College for his long history of service and dedication to the Schuylkill County and Pennsylvania bar associations. Corse will receive the 2002 Gilbert Nurick Award during the 36th annual seminar of the CCBL.

The Gilbert Nurick Award, which is named for the late Harrisburg lawyer who served as PBA president, is presented to a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association who exhibits dedication and service to the leadership and promotion of the organized bar and its activities. Although the award is not intended to be an annual accolade, it has been presented every year since it was given to Gilbert Nurick in 1991.

This award is designed to recognize those bar leaders who have gone above and beyond what is expected, noted PBA President H. Reginald Belden Jr. The PBA is pleased to honor Pete for his outstanding dedication to the legal profession.

In nominating Corse for the award, Schuylkill County Bar Association (SCBA) President Edward Brennan said Corse works to insure that local bar leaders effectively represent the needs of the profession within the community in a positive manner. The nomination also mentioned Corses modernization and continuing oversight of the local domestic relations rules and his commitment to promoting quality educational programs for the legal profession.

Corse is a past member of the Schuylkill County Bar Association board of directors, serving as president, vice-president, and several terms as secretary and treasurer. He was the editor of the Schuylkill County Legal Record for ten years and chair of the Domestic Relations Rules Committee. Corse also is credited with starting the countys Bench Bar Conference.

In addition to his activities with the local bar association, Corse has been an active member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA). He is a past zone governor, treasurer and CCBL president. Corse also served as chair of the Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee. Currently, he is the secretary for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the continuing legal education arm of the PBA.

A partner in the Pottsville law firm of Williamson, Friedberg & Jones, LLC, Corse is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
