 Defense Distribution Center
The Defense Distribution Center (DDC) is a part of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) that provides distribution services for the U.S. military services and DLA from 22 defense depots located throughout the world. The headquarters of the DDC is at New Cumberland, outside Harrisburg. The DDC Office of Counsel provides legal services, legal advice and representation for DDC headquarters and its 22 depots worldwide. Areas of legal practice include procurement/contract law, employment/labor/EEO law, fiscal law, environmental law, ethics and other administrative law areas.  Environmental Protection Agency
The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region III, employees approximately 78 attorneys in its office in Philadelphia. Region III attorneys are responsible for preparing administrative, judicial and criminal cases against suspected violators of federal environmental laws, such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act of 1980 (Superfund).  Judicial Clerks (Federal)
Each federal judge within Pennsylvania has one or more law clerks who assist with research and the drafting of a variety of work products, such as bench memoranda, orders and decisions. A total of 56 judges are appointed to one of three district courts within Pennsylvania. The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania is headquartered in Philadelphia. Middle District judges sit primarily in Scranton or Harrisburg, while most judges of the Western District have offices in Pittsburgh. Each district judge is entitled to two clerks, and the chief district judge may have three clerks. Additionally, each district has several magistrate judges, who are assisted by clerks. A total of six judges in Pennsylvania sit on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Each has a number of clerks. There are 12 bankruptcy judges within Pennsylvania, each of whom have one clerk. Some of these clerks are permanent employees; others are engaged for a specified limited term, usually starting immediately after law school graduation. The Philadelphia Office of the Regional Chief Counsel for the Social Security Administration employees forty-three (43) attorneys. Attorneys provide legal advice and representation on various issues relating to the agency's statutory and regulatory programs, including disability and survivor's benefits.  U.S. Attorney's Office
United States Attorneys serve as litigators within the U.S. Department of Justice under the direction of the U.S. Attorney General. There are 93 U.S. Attorneys throughout the 50 states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands. A U.S. Attorney heads each of the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Pennsylvania. Approximately 185 Assistant U.S. Attorneys are assigned to the three Pennsylvania districts, with offices in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Scranton, Williamsport, Erie, and Johnstown. U.S. Attorneys are appointed by and serve at the discretion of the President, with the advice and consent of the U.S. Senate. Each U.S. Attorney is the chief federal law enforcement officer within his or her district. The offices conduct most of the trial work in which the United States is a party. They are responsible for the prosecution of criminal cases brought by the federal government, the prosecution and defense of civil cases in which the United States is a party, and the collection of debts owed the federal government that are administratively uncollectible. Although the distribution of caseload varies between districts, each has every category of cases and handles a mixture of simple and complex litigation in virtually all practice areas.
