Chair's Welcome

Letter from Appellate Advocacy Committee Chair and Vice Chair, 2012

Welcome to the Web pages of the Appellate Advocacy Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. As we continually seek to advance the cause of exceptional appellate advocacy in Pennsylvania, we are proud to bring tools to assist in that effort to practitioners and committee members through this forum.

We hope that you find the articles and information contained here helpful to your practice and that our Web pages may inspire you to become involved in the work of this committee. Our committee was founded in 2002 by the Hon. Robert Graci and attorney Charles Craven. They were succeeded by the Hon. Mary Jane Bowes and attorney James Sargent. We are honored to follow in the footsteps of such fine leaders, who did an exceptional job of advancing the practice of appellate law through this committees work. Among other things, the Appellate Advocacy Committee has produced outstanding educational programs in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. We encourage you to start your search for information on how to be an outstanding appellate advocate in the "yellow books" and materials published in conjunction with those programs. We ask you to watch for future programming in this field as we continue to capture the wisdom of the best and the brightest members of the PBA who serve as faculty for those programs.

We also urge you to become involved in the activities of the Appellate Advocacy Committee. The subcommittees on educational programming, appellate rules, lunch and learn meetings, Web pages and special projects all need additional support from interested members of the PBA. Join us and make our efforts even better!
