Mock trials are an instructional activity which promotes critical thinking and reasoning. It calls upon students to employ their reading, listening, and speaking skills. As such, it links well to the Pennsylvania State Standards and the Common Core Standards which have been adopted by the Commonwealth. Additionally, the extension of mock trials to the co-curricular agenda alongside of such activities as debating, student council, and student journalism (school newspaper) help students become proficient in the expected learning outcomes to which schools and teachers are held accountable. This chart demonstrates the strength of the relationship between mock trial experiences and those standards.
