Melinda C. Ghilardi

Melinda C. Ghilardi, first assistant federal public defender for the Middle District of Pennsylvania in Scranton, is a PBA at-large governor representing the interests of women lawyers in Pennsylvania.

Ghilardi is the co-chair of the PBA Women in the Profession Committee of which she has been a member since 1998. She has served in the leadership of the PBA WIP since 2003 as secretary and an executive council member. Ghilardi was the recipient in 2004 of the PBA WIP's Lynette Norton Award. A member of the PBA House of Delegates, she serves on its Credentials and Admission Committee. Ghilardi is a former president and board member of the Lackawanna Bar Association. She is the current treasurer of the Association of Women Lawyers of Lackawanna County. She is a member of the Federal and American bar associations, as well as the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. She served as secretary for the National Association of Federal Defenders.

She is a past member of the board of trustees and a current member of the board of regents of the University of Scranton and is a member of the board of visitors for university's Panuska College of Professional Studies. She serves on the board development committee of Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania and is a member of the BPW Foundation. She also has served in the leadership of the Lackawanna County division of the American Heart Association, the Family Service of Lackawanna County, Friendship House, the Lackawanna County Commission for Women and the United Way of Lackawanna County. She also served as vice chair of the board of directors of Community Medical Center.

Ghilardi is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Scranton. She received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
